Practising Assessment – STMS Cat A

Assessment tasks (for a new STMS)

There are a range of components included in the practising STMS Cat A assessment. Some of these are verified by a TTM Mentor and others are observed by the TTM Assessor.

For the assessment you must complete three road closures for the Category A road environment.

Verified by the TTM Mentor

The TTM Mentor will verify two closures which could include:

  • Shoulder closure
  • Multi-lane closure.

Only one of the closures can be a shoulder closure.

One of the closures must deal with either pedestrian or cyclist management.

Observed by the TTM Assessor

The TTM Assessor will observe a live lane closure with alternating flow control.

Assessment tasks (for a refresher STMS)

An STMS who has attended the STMS Refresher workshop will also have to complete a practising assessment for each category of road they are operating as an onsite STMS.

Because they are an existing STMS, they do not need to complete verified worksites. They can proceed directly to the assessment observed by the assessor.

Observed by the TTM Assessor

The TTM Assessor will observe a live lane closure with alternating flow control.

We do recommend working with a TTM Mentor to go over the assessment tasks to ensure they understand the requirements of each component
